Like many blue-blooded bikers, I used to believe that two wheels made for a great riding experience, but three was one too many.
The exceptions are the lean-over-in-the-corners three-wheeled scoots like the Piaggio MP3 and Yamaha Tricity, which remain excellent choices for anyone wanting an easier urban commute.
However, rigidly framed trikes (those that can’t lean over while cornering) like the Can-Am Spyder range and $52,495 Harley-Davidson Tri Glide Ultra just don’t cut it with me, as you need to twist your upper body while cornering to resist the lateral g-force that’s threatening to eject you from the rider’s seat. This remedial survival action is a great promoter of back ache during any reasonably long ride on such trikes……
